Shopify Store Setup for Small Business

This is a done-for-you Shopify store build for small businesses launching their first online store or replacing one that isn't selling. You get a fast, mobile-friendly store with products loaded, payments working, shipping configured, and the basics tuned for conversion — ready to take orders in 3-4 weeks.

Most small-business Shopify stores underperform because they're either DIY'd from a free theme with no thought given to speed or checkout flow, or built by an agency that hands you a beautiful site you can't actually update. This is the middle path: built properly, tuned to convert, handed over so you own it.

What's included

  • Shopify theme setup and customization (paid theme included, chosen for your products and goals)
  • Up to 50 products loaded with images, descriptions, variants, and inventory
  • Payment processing configured (Shopify Payments, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay)
  • Shipping rates, zones, and tax settings set up correctly for your business
  • Speed optimization — images compressed, apps audited, target load time under 3 seconds on mobile
  • Checkout flow tuned to reduce abandonment (guest checkout, clear shipping costs, trust signals)
  • Essential pages written: About, Contact, Shipping, Returns, Privacy, Terms
  • Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, and basic email capture installed
  • One hour of training so you can add products and update content yourself

How it works

  1. 30-minute discovery call to understand your products, customers, and goals. Flat quote within 24 hours.
  2. You send product photos, descriptions, and brand assets. I send a theme recommendation and a content checklist.
  3. I build the store on a development theme, load products, configure payments and shipping, and tune for speed.
  4. You review on a private link. Two rounds of revisions included.
  5. We launch, I train you on the admin, and you own everything — store, theme, content, customer data.

Who it's for (and who it's not)

This is for small businesses with 5-50 products who want to sell online without learning Shopify the hard way. Good fits: local retailers expanding online, makers and artisans, service businesses adding product sales, existing stores on Wix or Squarespace that have outgrown them.

Not a fit if you need a custom app, a headless build, multi-vendor marketplace, or 1,000+ SKUs imported from another platform — those projects need a different scope and budget. Also not a fit if you don't have product photos yet; get those done first, then come back.

What it costs

Most Shopify store builds land between $4,000 and $10,000 depending on product count, customization, and whether you need migration from another platform. A straightforward 20-product store with stock theme customization is around $4,000-$5,500. A larger build with custom sections, migration, and 50 products runs $7,000-$10,000. Timeline is 3-4 weeks from signed quote to launch. Shopify subscription ($29-$79/month) is separate and billed directly to you.

In short

A real Shopify store, built to load fast and convert, handed over so you own it — not a template you'll outgrow in six months.

Questions about this service

Do I need to provide product photos?

Yes, you need product photos before we start. Phone photos work fine if they're well-lit and on a clean background, but professional product photography pays for itself fast. If you don't have photos yet, get those done first — I can recommend a local photographer or a remote service. Trying to build a store without photos wastes everyone's time and the result looks unfinished.

Can you migrate my existing store from another platform?

Yes, migrations from Wix, Squarespace, WooCommerce, or BigCommerce are common and add roughly $1,000-$2,500 to the project depending on product count and complexity. I'll move products, customer accounts where possible, order history, and set up 301 redirects so you don't lose your Google rankings. Some platforms export cleaner than others — I'll tell you what to expect on the discovery call.

What's the monthly cost after launch?

Shopify itself runs $29/month for the Basic plan, $79/month for Shopify, or $299/month for Advanced. Most small businesses start on Basic and upgrade when they outgrow it. You'll also pay payment processing fees (2.9% + 30¢ on Basic, lower on higher plans) and any paid apps you choose to add. I keep the app list minimal — usually two or three at most — so monthly costs stay predictable, typically $50-$150 all-in.

Can I add products and edit pages myself after launch?

Yes, and that's the whole point. Shopify's admin is designed for non-technical owners, and I include an hour of training covering how to add products, edit pages, update images, check orders, and handle customer messages. After that you're independent. If you want me to handle ongoing updates I offer a maintenance plan at $200/month, but most clients don't need it.

How do you make sure the store actually converts, not just looks good?

A pretty store that doesn't sell is a failure. The conversion work is built into the process: clean product pages with clear photos and benefit-focused descriptions, a fast checkout with guest option, visible shipping costs before checkout, trust signals like reviews and clear return policies, mobile-first design since 70%+ of shopping is on phones, and speed optimization because every second of load time costs you sales. I'll also set up Google Analytics so you can see what's working after launch.

What if I need help six months later?

You can email me anytime. Quick questions are free — that's just being a decent person. Larger changes (new product launches, design updates, new features, marketing integrations) are billed hourly at $125/hour or as a small fixed project. About a third of clients come back within the first year for something, and a smaller group puts me on a monthly maintenance plan once they're doing real volume. You're never locked in — you own the store and can hire anyone.
